STERLING VA: (ROCKTOWN NOW) –The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for potential flooding caused by excessive rainfall. The flood watch covers multiple regions, including Albemarle, Augusta, Central Virginia Blue Ridge, Eastern Highland, Greene, Madison, Nelson, Northern Virginia Blue Ridge, Page, Rappahannock, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Warren, Western Highland in Virginia, and Eastern Grant, Eastern Pendleton, Hardy, Western Grant, and Western Pendleton in West Virginia.

A prolonged period of moderate to heavy rain showers, accompanied by embedded thunderstorms, is forecasted to persist through the evening. Rainfall amounts are expected to range between 2 to 4 inches, with locally higher amounts possible along the eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountains. Excessive runoff may lead to flooding of creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone areas. Flooding of low-water crossings is also anticipated.
