HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning until 9:45PM Tuesday night for West Central Rockingham County and the City of Harrisonburg.
At 6:45 PM, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 2.5 to 3 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 1.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas are expected.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include Harrisonburg, Bridgewater, Dale Enterprise, and Dayton.
