HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for central Rockingham County and Harrisonburg, Virginia until 7:45 p.m.
The City of Harrisonburg, Town of Dayton, and Dale Enterprise are the among the impacted localities.
According to an alert from NWS in Sterling, Va., thunderstorms are producing heavy rainfall of 1-2 inches per hour, with 1-1.5 inches already fallen. Additional rainfall of 1-2 inches is possible. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected soon in small creeks, streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and other low-lying areas.
The National Weather Service urges drivers to “turn around, don’t drown” when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
