HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – For those who want to make it out down to the Turner Pavilion for the Harrisonburg Farmers Market’s Sunset Market, tonight is the last chance.
The final edition of the Sunset Market for the 2024 season is this evening from 5 to 8 p.m.
Sarah Golibart Gorman, the Harrisonburg Farmers Market’s spokesperson, spoke with host Frank Wilt on WSVA’s Spotlight On Valley Agriculture. According to Gorman, the Sunset Market provides an opportunity for people who cannot attend the regular markets on Saturday mornings or Tuesdays due to work. She
“We’re excited to welcome families, especially,” Gorman said. “It’s a great thing to do after work with friends, with family, to bring the kids. It’s a great opportunity to learn and play and eat and just enjoy some outdoor time together.”
The final Sunset Market will feature live music from Ebony Nicole. There will also be chef demos from the Downtown Rabbit Hole, who will offer a tea tasting, and Amanda Pressgraves, who published a cookbook titled The Non-Recipe Book.
“[Pressgraves] really encourages very playful cooking, improvisation, and gives you the tools for how to do it,” Gorman explained. “So she’s going to prepare a lovely meal for us.”
Community organizations including the Harrisonburg-Rockingham SPCA, Friendly City Safe Space and the Fairfield Center will also be at the Market with information about their services. Many of the Harrisonburg Farmers Market’s regular vendors such as For the Love of Chicken Salad, Appalachee Chocolate and Frozen Harvest will have set up their tables as well.
