HARRISONBURG, VA – (Rocktown Now)  – With Thanksgiving just days away, the Harrisonburg Farmers Market is making it easier for families to serve fresh, locally sourced dishes at their holiday tables. On WSVA’s Spotlight on Valley Agriculture, Sarah Gorman, Market Manager, shared details about a special program designed to bring farm-fresh ingredients straight to local kitchens.
The initiative offers curated Thanksgiving recipe kits, similar to popular meal kit services—but with a local twist. “Instead of having it shipped from all over the country, you can get your recipe kit right from the Harrisonburg Farmers Market,” Gorman explained. Each kit includes raw ingredients from area farms and detailed recipes to guide preparation.

Five featured dishes are available:

Honey-Glazed Carrots
Apple Cider Roast Chicken (turkey is sold out)
Maple Pecan Roasted Squash
Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Focaccia Stuffing

Additional pantry items, fresh breads, apple cider, and desserts such as pumpkin rolls and deep-dish pies are also available. For those with dietary restrictions, vegan and gluten-free options like chickpea salad are offered.
Order Deadline Approaching
Orders for pre-packaged kits must be placed by Friday, November 21 at HarrisonburgFarmersMarket.com. Miss the deadline? Shoppers can still download recipes online and purchase ingredients at the market on Saturday or Tuesday—the final Tuesday market of the season.
Market Hours and Seasonal Highlights
The Harrisonburg Farmers Market operates Saturdays and Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday markets run year-round, while Tuesday markets resume in April. Seasonal offerings include a wide variety of produce and unique items like heirloom dry beans from Ulmer’s Mountain View Farm. One standout variety, the “orca bean,” is prized for its creamy texture and striking speckled pattern—perfect for hearty winter soups.
