Evelyn Strawderman Runion, 69, of Williamston North Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2024 at ECU Health Hospital in Greenville North Carolina with her family by her side. She was born on December 9th 1954 in Harrisonburg Virginia to the late Jacob Samuel Strawderman and Marjorie Arlene Strawderman. She spent her school years in New Market Virginia and then moved to the city in Virginia where she managed the Kmart there. She moved with her family to North Carolina where she spent most of the rest of her adult life and managed The Kangaroo in Castle Hayne for many years. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

She was married to Jerry Edward Runion and together they raised 3 children, Timmy, Melinda, and Chris. She was blessed to have 3 wonderful children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she visited frequently and loved dearly. Her later years she was able to travel all over with family especially her ride or dies, Melody Seger and Sandy Campbell. She loved her family and would do anything for any of them and always made sure they were well taken care of. She was a die-hard Washington Commanders fan (HTTR!) She read often. She was a huge Stephen King fan and could read a 3 inch paperback in a couple of days. She loved puzzles, arts, and crafts. Her favorite artist was Elton John and if he wasn’t gay she would have loved to marry him. She adored Survivor and Big Brother TV series. Her favorite movie was Shawshank Redemption. She was loving and passionate about everything and everyone in her life.

Left to cherish the memories and legacy she left behind are her son, Timothy Strawderman (Sandra Byrd), Melinda Godwin (Jason Godwin), and Christopher Runion (Shannon Runion); granddaughter, Barbara Jean Kerr Wallace; grandsons, Randy Strawderman, Matthew Strawderman, Max Strawderman, and Christepher Patrick Kerr Runion; and many great-grandchildren.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband Jerry Edward Runion, Jacob Samuel Strawderman, father; Marjorie Arlene Strawderman, mother; Jackie Strawderman, William Strawderman, and Michael Strawderman, brothers; Patricia Strawderman and Nancy Jean Campbell, sisters; daughter-in-law, Barbara Strawderman.

The caring professionals at Grandle Funeral Home are assisting the family with the arrangements during this difficult time. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM on September 21st 2024 with the Visitation preceding the service at 11:00 AM, at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway Virginia with a reception to follow at 2:00 at Flat Rock Church in New Market Virginia.
