Esther Ruth Ebey, 73, of Hinton, VA, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Sentara RMH Medical Center, in Harrisonburg.
Mrs. Ebey was born on August 19, 1950, in Battle Creek, Michigan and was the daughter of the late Robert Daniel and Elsie Ruth Ebey.
She was a graduate of University of Maryland where she received a Bachelors degree and also graduated from Jones International University where she received a Masters degree. Esther was a prior member of Unitarian Universalist Church of Reston, then Stephen’s City, VA. She worked in IT as a computer programmer/analyst of almost 30 years before retiring. She volunteered her time by donating handmade masks during COVID, mailing out letters to encourage voting and was an avid gardener that vended at the Harrisonburg Farmers Market for many years. Above all, she was a loving and caring grandmother, mother and wife. She loved her fur kitties and made cat toys as a hobby.
On March 22, 1975, she married Wayne Byron Barnard who survives.
In addition to her husband, Esther is survived by a daughter, Robin Kay Mitchell; two grandchildren, Logan Joseph Mitchell and Montana Mae Mitchell and one sister, Mary Emma Ebey.
A celebration of life will be conducted at 1 p.m., on Friday, June 19, 2024, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, with Chaplain Marian Buckwalter officiating.
