FOREST, Va. (EMU Athletics) – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference has released their weekly men’s volleyball awards, and first-year Daeman Odom has been named the ODAC Offensive Player of the Week. This is Odom’s first ODAC award this season.
The Virginia Beach, Va. native had a strong week for the Royals, as he laid down 34 kills over 15 sets and four matches, for an average of 2.26 kills/set. He had double-digit points in three of EMU’s four matches during the week, picking up 11.5 against Roanoke, 12.0 against Averett and 17.5 against Drew. He also hit .500 against Averett and .529 against Drew, both EMU wins. He also had three service aces to add to his offensive total.
He defensive numbers were equally impressive, as he put up five solo blocks and 16 assisted blocks across the four matches and had at least five total blocks in three of the four. On the season, he ranks first in the ODAC and fifth in all of Division III, with 1.167 blocks/set. He also leads the ODAC and is third nationally with 77 total blocks.
The Royals went 2-2 on the week, falling to Roanoke on Wednesday, before taking down Averett in a 3-0 sweep on Friday and downing Drew 3-1 on Saturday. In Saturday’s finale, they fell 3-1 to #9 Messiah, but were competitive in all three matches. They’re off this week for spring break, and will return to play Wednesday, March 12, at home against Roanoke.
