HARRISONBURG, Va. (EMU Athletics) – The EMU Men’s Soccer team played its second home game in as many days on Sunday, entertaining Linfield University on the EMU Turf Field. The Royals sent their fans home happy to cap the doubleheader weekend, besting the Wildcats 2-0.

Youth was served as first-year players Kane Kiernan and Carlos Ventura each tallied their first career collegiate goals. Their offense aided the Royals to their first victory of the season in their first-ever meeting with Linfield.

Highlights
• 8′ | The Royals came out with a strong attack, wearing down the Wildcats until Kiernan found the back of the net with a shot from near the top of the box. Ventura set Kiernan up beautifully with a cross from the right side.
• 28′ | Later in the opening half, it was Ventura’s turn to do the scoring, booming a kick past the Linfield keeper, with the help of an assist from Josiah King. That made the score 2-0 EMU at the break.
• Linfield never seriously threatened the Royals in the second half, with only one shot on goal in the final 45 minutes.
• EMU outshot Linfield decisively 19-5, also outpacing the Wildcats 7-2 in shots on goal.
• Sunday marked Andrew Arledge’s second shutout as goalkeeper this season and the ninth of his EMU career.

What’s Next
The EMU Men’s Soccer team will load up the bus for a Wednesday afternoon showdown at McDaniel College on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The Royals and Green Terror fought to a scoreless draw in Harrisonburg last season. Opening whistle at McDaniel will be at 4 p.m.
