Libby Swingle, (Elizabeth Ann Webb), 88, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Sunnyside Retirement Community, in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where she had resided for 17 years.
Mrs. Swingle was born on April 29, 1936 in Bluefield, VA and was the daughter of the late Arthur Edward and Hazel Louise (Spradlin) Webb.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, David Oral Swingle on April 13, 2023 and a sister, Martha Webb.
Mrs. Swingle is survived by her daughters, Deborah Jordan, Rebecca (Marc) Forno, Jennifer (Keith) Deshaies; her sister, Joyce Mae Rickels; niece Jill Strand (Adrian); six beloved grandchildren, Cassandra (Robert), David (Aubrey), Olivia, Anna, Isabella, Bryce; along with four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jordan, Andrew, and Ellie.
Libby attended Eastern University where she met her husband, and lifelong best friend.
Libby was energetic, creative, resourceful, frugal, physically strong, and mentally determined. She worked many different jobs/careers in her lifetime including as a Biology Teacher, a small business owner, an IRS contractor, a U.S. Mail carrier, a school bus driver, and finally as a real estate broker. Libby also ran for Pennsylvania State Representative!
But her love and passion were designing, building and landscaping many homes with her husband Dave.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 4 p.m. at the Meredith Chapel of Sunnyside Nursing Home with the Rev. Dr. Cynthia Long officiating. This day is special, as it would have been Libby and Dave’s 66th wedding anniversary.
Family and friends are welcome to visit beginning at 3 p.m.
A private family service will be held at the Woodbine Cemetery Mausoleum immediately following the service.
