MESA, Ariz. (JMU Athletics) – Four Dukes are set to represent James Madison at the 2025 USA Basketball 3X Nationals next week, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Peyton McDaniel, Ashanti Barnes, Bree Robinson and Zakiya Stephenson comprise the Dukes’ squad, which will compete at the Arizona Athletic Grounds (AAG) from May 2-4.
The 3X Nationals is USA Basketball’s national championships for men’s and women’s 3×3 basketball teams. Started in 2012, teams from across the country have come to compete and earn the national title. The 2025 edition will feature up to eight men’s and 16 women’s teams, including some of the best 3×3 players in the country, vying for national titles.
An impressive lineup of teams is expected to take the halfcourt in Mesa, including NCAA Division I women’s programs Fairfield, Florida, Oklahoma State, Richmond, South Carolina, South Dakota State, Stephen F. Austin, TCU, and Vanderbilt in addition to 3×3 pro team 3XBA and independent Team Phoenix.
Played on a half court with a 10-minute clock and a 12-second shot clock, the first team to 21 points, or the team in the lead at the end of regulation, is the winner.
Nationals will tip off May 2 with preliminary round men’s and women’s games and will continue through Sunday’s medal round games. Teams will be seeded based on preliminary records before entering bracket play. Game action is set to stream live on Friday, Saturday and Sunday on X and YouTube.com/USABasketball.
The event will serve as an evaluation for selection to various future USA Basketball 3×3 men’s and women’s national teams, including the 2025 FIBA 3×3 World Cup, set for June 23-29 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and roster spots for USA Basketball 3×3 World Tour, 3×3 Women’s Series, 3×3 U23 Nations League and 3×3 U23 World Cup teams.
