CLEVELAND – Cassidy Strittmatter has been voted Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while Sarah Beers was selected as the Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The weekly award is Strittmatter’s first since being named CAA Rookie of the Week for the third week in a row on Nov. 2, 2021. Since then, the Dukes have seen two players named NFHCA Offensive Player of the Week: Eveline Zwager (Sept. 21, 2022) and Alice Roeper (Oct. 2, 2024). Meanwhile, Beers’ weekly honor is the first of her career.

Strittmatter recorded four points (1g, 2a) this past weekend to help the JMU improve to 8-2 (3-0 MAC) and extend their winning streak to four, its longest since 2022. The senior dished out a career-best two assists in a 5-1 win at Ohio on Friday before scoring a crucial goal in JMU’s 2-1 triumph over Richmond on Sunday. Strittmatter is tied for fourth in the Mid-American Conference in goals (5) and game-winning goals (2). Additionally, she is second on the team in goals (5) and points (13).

Beers anchored a stingy JMU defense that allowed just nine shots for a perfect 2-0 weekend. In a 5-1 win at Ohio on Friday, the Bobcats were limited to four shots and three corners. Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Richmond saw the Dukes allow just five shots by the Spiders. JMU has limited opponents to 12 shots over the last four games, outscoring them 17-4.

Nationally, JMU is seventh in goals per game (3.10) and 11th in scoring margin (+1.56).

The Dukes will resume Mid-American Conference play on Friday versus Kent State. Action at the JMU Field Hockey Complex is slated for 3 p.m.
