NEW ORLEANS (JMU Athletics) – James Madison redshirt senior Mark Freeman took home the Sun Belt Conference’s Player of the Week honor on Tuesday afternoon.
Freeman averaged 23.0 points per game while shooting 51.6 percent (16-of-31) from the field and 40 percent (6-of-15) from behind the arc to help lead JMU to a pair of home victories over Coastal Carolina and Old Dominion. In conference play, the native of Memphis is averaging 16.1 points per game and has scored 10 or more points in seven of the past eight games. In 2024-25, Freeman leads the Dukes in points (13.7) and assists (3.7) per game.
Against Coastal Carolina on Thursday, Freeman finished with 29 points on 10-of-17 shooting and added four rebounds and an assist in JMU’s 73-64 win. It was his fourth game over 20 points this season and 19th in his career. On Saturday versus Old Dominion, Freeman scored 15 points in the first half to help the Dukes race to a 36-25 halftime lead and finished with 17 points in the 68-54 win.
Freeman joins Bryce Lindsay (Nov. 26) as JMU players to take home the SBC Player of the Week Award in the 2024-25 season. The Dukes return to the court tomorrow night at 7 p.m. against Troy at the Atlantic Union Bank Center.
