NEW ORLEANS (JMU Athletics) – James Madison quarterback Alonza Barnett III added to his week eight honors on Monday, as he was voted Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced.

This is Barnett’s third career weekly SBC honor, joining his back-to-back honors on Sept. 23 and 30, 2024. This laurel also comes follows him being named to the Davey O’Brien Award Great 8 and being added to the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award midseason watch list.

Last Saturday, Barnett accounted for six total touchdowns and 448 total yards to lead JMU to a dominant 63-27 win over Old Dominion. The win kept the Dukes unbeaten in Sun Belt play (4-0) while reaching bowl eligibility (6-1 overall).

Barnett finished the game 17 of 25 for 295 passing yards and two touchdowns while rushing for career bests of 153 yards and four scores. The four rushing touchdowns were the most by a JMU player since 1999 and tied for third in single-game history, while his 448 total yards were the seventh most by a JMU player ever.

The Dukes have a few extra days until their next game, as they travel to San Marcos, Texas, on Tuesday, Oct. 28 to face Texas State. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET from UFCU Stadium.
