HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — It appears that a drunk driver hit a power pole Wednesday afternoon in Harrisonburg and that left hundreds of folks without power for a period.

Harrisonburg Police Communications Specialist Julianna McGrath explains the crash happened at around 1:20 at the intersection of North Main Street and East Washington Street.

“Once Harrisonburg Police officers arrived on scene, they determined the driver was possibly under the influence of alcohol,’ McGrath said. “The driver was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.”

The name of the driver was withheld.

Meanwhile, the impact of the crash caused the transformer to blow, which caused the power outages and streets closed for an extended period of time.

Crews with Harrisonburg Electric Commission arrived on scene to restore power after less than an hour and repair the power pole.

No injuries were reported.
