SHENANDOAH COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) — Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash in Shenandoah County.

According to a news release, the crash occurred Tuesday at 8:25 a.m. on the 7000 block of Orkney Grade Road.

Virginia State Police Sergeant Brent Coffey said a 2020 Ford Transit van was traveling eastbound when it ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a ditch and collided with a fence. The driver, Daniel S. Painter, 42, of Mount Jackson, died at the scene. Police say he was not wearing a seatbelt.

A medical emergency is being considered as a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
