ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – An Elkton woman has been charged for her involvement in a fatal crash that happened in Rockingham County earlier this week.
Debra L. Elliott, 66, of Elkton, was arrested on five charges, including involuntary manslaughter, DUI and drug possession, according to Virginia State Police spokesperson Brent Coffey. She is being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.
The crash occurred Tuesday morning when Elliott was driving a 2020 Hyundai Elantra in the 5500 block of Bryant Hollow Road. A passenger, Dymond A.S. Thacker, 34, of Broadway, was riding on the hood.
Thacker fell off and was struck by the Hyundai as it traveled downhill. She died from her injuries at the scene of the crash.
According to Coffey, Elliott and a second passenger in the Hyundai were not injured in the crash, despite the fact that Elliott was not wearing a seatbelt.
The crash remains under investigation.
