Doris Jean Smith Shifflett, 86, of Elkton, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024 at her home. Doris was born August 15, 1937 in Rockingham County, and was the daughter of the late Fred Webby and Mayme Gertrude Wyant Smith.

She was a member of the Furnace UMC for many years where she taught Sunday School. She attended Mt. Olive Brethren Church in Pineville, Beldor Mennonite Church and most recently the Church of Solsburg. She had previously worked at Bond Lumber Co, Hobby Robinson Department Store and Farm Bureau. Later she worked on the family farm with her husband raising chickens for Rocco. Doris was a devoted wife, amazing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

On July 5, 1963 she married the love of her life, Thomas “Sonny” Shifflett, who survives. Also surviving are sons, Glenn M. Shifflett and wife, Cindy, Carleton E. Shifflett and wife, Melodie; daughter, Melinda Ann Meadows and husband, Willie; stepdaughter, Brenda Keene and husband, Doni; grandchildren, Christin Keene, Kim Heddleston and husband, Greg, Jessica Thomas and husband, Andrew, Catherine Shifflett and fiancé, Junul Smith, Valerie Bennett and husband, Rob, Kevin Shifflett, Christopher Shifflett, and wife Brandi, Whitney Shifflett and fiancé, Christopher Ramey, Jeffrey Meadows and fiancé, Katelyn Harper; great-grandchildren, Joshua Shifflett, and his mother Sarah, Ellianna Shifflett, Cecilia Shifflett, Christopher Shifflett Jr., Mason Bennett, Tyler Bennett, Rylee Grace Thomas; foster great-grandson, Thomas Sherman; step great-grandson, Evan Harper.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m., Friday, June 14, 2024 at the Church of Solsburg with Pastor David Burrell and Pastor Josh Shifflett officiating. Burial will follow at Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton.

Family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton.
