Donald Lee Huntley, 79, of Stuarts Draft, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2024, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Mr. Huntley was born on September 17, 1944, in Augusta County and was a son of the late Thomas Lee and Hilda Jane (Ballenger) Huntley. He was a lifetime resident of the area. Don served in the United States Air Force from 1962 until 1966. He retired from the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Department where he worked as a jailer, road deputy and last as a school resource officer at Turner Ashby and Spotswood High Schools. He later worked part time as a police officer for James Madison University. Don helped found the Woodstone Meadows Stables at Massanutten. He enjoyed taking rides in the mountains and spending time outdoors. He also enjoyed taking care of his Purple Martins. He loved to fish and go to the shooting range.
On June 13, 2015 he married Tia Huntley who survives.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by his children, Donald L. Huntley, Jr., and wife Kelli of Culpeper, Todd Hamilton Huntley of Ashburn, Aaron Tallis Huntley of Waynesboro, Kathryn Huntley-Noesner and husband Rusty of Rockingham; step-children, Jennifer Jordy of Bordentown, NJ, Jason Marquardt of Corona, CA; brothers, Ronald Huntley and wife Carolyn of Staunton, Tommy Huntley and wife Linda of Staunton; grandchildren, June Noesner, Rusty Noesner; and step-grandchildren, Kylie Marquardt, Amanda Jordy, Hunter Marquardt.
A memorial service will be held on Friday August 30, 2024 at 2 PM at the Harrisonburg Chapel of Kyger Funeral Homes with Pastor Bud Brydge officiating. Burial will be held privately.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 1 until 2 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.
