ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (CBS News) – Rockingham County Department of Fire & Rescue officials say while water levels are dropping, folks should still stay off the rivers for at least several more days.

Meanwhile, officials with Claytor Lake State Park in Pulaski County are also telling folks to stay out of the water after the lake was filled with about a 10-acre field of debris from Helene’s rain and flooding.

Broderick Havens, the Park Manager at Claytor Lake, explained more on CBS News.

“We’re trying to coordinate where everything has landed and try to stay off the water until we can get everything kind of pushed back and make it a little bit more safe,” Havens said.

Around 45 homes were damaged in the southwestern Virginia county.
