RICHMOND, VA (Rocktown Now) – Area Delegate Tony Wilt says getting rid of the car tax as proposed in Governor Glenn Youngkin’s State of the Commonwealth speech last week is a good idea.
Speaking on the House floor earlier, Wilt countered the point made by opponents of the idea that only those owning a car would benefit from this.
“I would say that the ones that own a car are the ones that have been paying the tax,” Wilt said. “It’s pretty simple, Mr. Speaker. I would also say those same individuals, they’re the ones that pay the gas tax, they pay the registration and other fees that go along with owning a vehicle. And they sure could use a break.”
Getting rid of the car tax as well as eliminating tax on tips face uphill battles since Democrats control both chambers of the General Assembly.
