Darlene Kay Wine Smith, 66, a resident of Penn Laird, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024 at Blue Ridge Rehabilitation and Nursing.

Mrs. Smith was born on March 24, 1958 in Harrisonburg and was a daughter of the late Arthur Charles Wine Jr. and Virginia Mae Marshall Wine Argenbright. She worked as a dishwasher for Howard Johnson and Red Lobster. She liked playing cards, boardgames, taking pictures, going to the beach, and swinging while watching the birds and clouds.

On May 6, 1977, she married Alston Frederick Smith who preceded her in death on May 25, 2021.

Surviving are her two sons, Charles Matthew Smith and wife April of Penn Laird, Michael Wayne Smith and wife Kenisha of Harrisonburg; siblings, Charles Wine and wife Betsy of Grottoes, Linda Waybright and husband Tommy of New Hope, Joyce Caldwell of Timberville, Cathy Siever and husband Richard of Harrisonburg, Sherry Andes and husband Paul of Timberville, James Argenbright and wife Judy of Singers Glen; grandchildren, Joshua Mitchem, Carson, Lydia, and Jaxon Smith; and her special kitty, “Babygirl”.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by two brothers, Eddie Wine and wife Alberta and Richard Wine.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 23, 2024 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at McMullen Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Edgewood Cemetery in Grottoes at 11 a.m.
