Washington (Rocktown Now)—Farmers can now enroll in the 2024 Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) program, a risk management program offered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The enrollment period for this year began on February 28 and ends on April 29. Adjustments to production history can be made for 2024, with benefits being retroactive to January 1. Payments triggered in January may start as early as March 4, and coverage will be available until December.

The American Farm Bureau Federation commended the Farm Service Agency for opening enrollment promptly. DMC offers various coverage levels, including a free option for producers with a waived administrative fee for eligible dairy producers.

To determine the appropriate level of DMC coverage for a specific dairy operation, producers can use the online dairy decision tool.

For more information on DMC, visit the DMC webpage or contact your local USDA Service Center.
