BRIDGEWATER, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – A rescue earlier today by the Rockingham County Fire and Rescue’s boat and swift water team was able to rescue nine people from the North River.
Chief Jeremy Holloway reports that crews were dispatched to the 5600 block of Thomas Spring Road in the Bridgewater area after three people flipped out of a kayak and were stuck on a log.
“We deployed a paddle craft in our motorboat downstream and actually got three of the victims,” Holloway said. “Six of them were already out of the water on the side of the back, we got three of them out of the water and brought them back to safety, and then I actually went back in and took our boat and got all their kayaks and canoes and brought them to shore.”
Those stranded ranged from ages seven to 63. One person suffered minor injuries.
Crews from Bridgewater, Clover Hill and the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office assisted with manpower.
