BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – The Bridgewater College women’s basketball team took down Guilford 61-60 on Saturday afternoon as Riley Corcoran made the game winning layup with 14 seconds to go.

Records: Bridgewater 18-3 (11-2 ODAC); Guilford 13-9 (7-6 ODAC)

How It Happened
• Guilford hopped in front with the game’s opening score, but a Corcoran make at the line and a Jaden Alsberry layup put the Eagles in front 3-2. The Quakers scored on back-to-back trips to take a 6-3 lead. Out of a BC timeout that followed Jasmine Griffin gave the Eagles the lead back as four-straight points from the sophomore put BC on top 7-6 with 6:06 to go in the frame. Guilford swung the momentum back in their favor with four-straight points to take a three-point edge and kept that margin until Corcoran layup at the buzzer made it a 14-13 GC advantage after the opening stanza.
• The Quakers opened the second frame with five-straight before an Alsberry layup ended the short run. Guilford responded with a pair of makes at the free throw line, but a Jay Garcia bucket kept the Eagles rolling. Guilford stretched the lead back to six points with 2:36 to play with a Carleigh Perry three-pointer, but consecutive buckets by Corcoran cut the lead down to 24-22 with under 90 seconds to go in the half. GC went on another four-point swing, but an India Dailey score at the buzzer made it a 28-24 edge for the visitors.
• GC got on the board first in the third quarter, but a Corcoran score and a Dailey three-pointer both off the hands of Aylin Humpherys sliced the lead to just a point 90 seconds into the frame. Guilford responded with its largest run of the day to gain the largest lead of the contest at 3-31 after a 9-2 swing capped off by a Zoe Bayer long ball. Jasmine Griffin drove right through the lane in response for BC and completed the three-point play after the foul. Garcia nailed a mid-range jumper, and another Griffin make at the charity stripe capped off a 6-0 BC run to close the lead back down to a pair of points with a minute to go in the third. Guilford made a pair at the charity stripe in the closing seconds to take a 43-39 advantage after three.
• Bridgewater opened the fourth quarter on a 5-0 swing as a Corcoran and-one and an Alsberry bucket off of an assist from the junior from Chapel Hill put BC in front 44-43. Guilford replied with a 5-0 swing of its own to take a four-point advantage and held on to that until 6:47 to play as four-straight points from Alsberry tied the game at 50-50. Guilford took the lead back on the next trip down the floor, but a Corcoran three-pointer gave the Eagles the lead back. Griffin finished at the hoop on BC’s next trip down the floor for BC to take a 55-52 lead with 5:02 to play. Guilford was held off the scoreboard for over two minutes before a pair of free throws cut the lead down to a point. An Alsberry score put BC back up by three, but a dagger from long range by Bayer tied the game with 2:37 to play. The two sides swapped scores before Guilford made one of two free throws to take a slim 60-59 lead with 1:34 left. Each team got key stops late before a BC timeout came after an Alsberry defensive rebound with 19 seconds to play. Out of the stop, Corcoran inbounded and got the ball right back as she drove and spun through the lane and finished off balance off the glass to put BC in front with 13.7 seconds left. Guilford called its final timeout and drove to the hoop but missed. The rebound was tied up resulting in GC getting the ball back late with the possession arrow in its favor. The Quakers inbounded and Courtney McMillian tried put a spin move on Alsberry but she was not fooled as she poked the ball free to secure the win.
