Clarence Clayton “Chip” Brand, 93, of Harrisonburg, VA, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Sunnyside Retirement Community, where he resided since 1995.

Mr. Brand was born April 1, 1931, in Kingston, PA, the only son of the late Edith Brand Mackintosh and stepson of the late William Mackintosh. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Katherine Robinson of Tucson, AZ, and a brother-in-law, Jack Smith of Canada.

He was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church where he was a licensed Ecclesiastic Minister, Lay Reader and previous member of the choir.

In June 1949, in Canada, Mr. Brand married Jean Katherine Smith, who also preceded him in death on April 22, 2024.

In 1960 he and his family emigrated to the United States, residing in Rochester, NY, becoming Naturalized U.S. citizens in 1965. In 1979, he and Mrs. Brand moved to Lynchburg, Vam where he was employed by GE (later to become Ericsson Inc.) as a Communications System Engineer, retiring in 1991. In 1993, they moved to Harrisonburg, VA, before entering Sunnyside in 1995.

Mr. Brand was an Amateur Radio “HAM” Operator having been licensed as VE3 in Canada, a WA2 in NY, and KA4 in VA.

He is survived by a son, Russell Brand and wife, Mary of Elyria, OH; three grandchildren, Paul Saxton, Matthew Brand, and Ashley Brand; a sister-in-law, Patricia Smith; a niece, Nancy Seguin, and a nephew, Jay Smith of Canada.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Friday, October 18, 2024, at Boonsboro Cemetery in Lynchburg, VA, with the Reverend David Rose officiating.
