HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) – The city of Harrisonburg continues to advance in the strongest town contest.

The Friendly City has won its first two rounds of the 10th annual competition by continuing to shine a national spotlight on the work it is doing to become a stronger, more resilient city.

Vice Mayor Laura Dent explains that Harrisonburg is a Strong Town because they value and promote affordable housing.

“One of our biggest undertakings is to rewrite our zoning and subdivision ordinance,” said Vice Mayor Dent. “We’re looking to increase the allowable density, especially downtown. Reduce or remove parking minimums to allow for more space for housing instead of cars. And allow accessory dwelling units and backyard cottages to increase available housing.”

Third-round voting is underway at strongesttown.com. The voting runs through Thursday.
