Chester Lee Whetzel, 83, a resident of Dayton, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Augusta Medical Center.
Mr. Whetzel was born on February 5, 1941, in Rockingham County, VA, to the late Edward and Icie Jane Hinkle Whetzel. He was self-employed in the construction business and enjoyed his involvement with the Rockingham Country Baseball League’s Clover Hill Bucks.
In the Spring of 1964, he married Almeda Jean Thompson, who preceded him in death on October 1, 2018.
Mr. Whetzel is survived by his son, Rick Whetzel, and wife Kelly, of Staunton; grandchildren, Brandon Rankin, Cassie Hall, Katelynn Henderson, Stephanie Wilson; and 4 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Whetzel was preceded in death by his siblings, Clarence Gene Whetzel, Curtis Whetzel, Cletus Whetzel, and Carl Whetzel.
A graveside service will be held on at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens with Pastor Scott Harris officiating.
Those wishing may view and sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at the funeral home.
