ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Chaz Haywood is now the new Chair of the Rockingham County Republican Committee.

Former Chair Daryl Borquist says they usually hold mass meetings to reconstitute the committee in March, but due to many of the amendments currently in the General Assembly, including redistricting, area Republicans agreed that earlier was better.

“We had a pre-file period for the chairman’s position. And under the rules and the call, if only one person applies for the position, then at the end of the filing period, which was 5 p.m. on Friday, that person is automatically deemed elected as of that moment. And there was only one application, and that was Mr. Haywood,” said Borquist.

In an online statement, the Committee praised Haywood as a proven leader whose diligence serving as Clerk of the Circuit Court and within the local GOP has made him a respected figure in the community.
