FOREST, Va. (BC Athletics) – Jaicere Bateman and Andrew Brown have been named the ODAC Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week after their clutch performances in BC’s 22-21 win over Shenandoah on Saturday night.
The first Saturday night game at Jopson did not disappoint as a touchdown from Bateman to Jamel Johnson with 23 seconds left and a two-point conversion by the same connection put the Eagles in front late. Brown earned his recognition a few plays later as Shenandoah lined up for the potential go-ahead 55-yard field goal with three seconds on the clock. The Hornets snap and hold went as planned and a line drive kick was batted down at the line by the big man in the middle to clinch the win.
Bateman set a career best with 29 completions and completed over 75% of his passes for the third week in a row and the fourth time this season. The sophomore from Lynchburg, Va. accounted for all three of BC’s touchdowns with two through the air and one on the ground as he has now scored three or more times in five-straight contests. Bateman also tossed for 253 total yards on Saturday night, the second highest total for the Heritage High School product this season.
Brown becomes the third straight ODAC Special Teams Player of the Week in the Crimson & Gold and the fifth in six weeks of play for BC this season. The kick is the second blocked by the BC special teams unit this season as the Rockville, Md. added the block to gom along with a tackle for loss in the win.
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday in a matchup of unbeatens in ODAC play as the squad heads east to Ashland and battles (RV) Randolph-Macon.
