FOREST, Va. (BC Athletics) – Evelyn Rhoads of the Bridgewater College softball team has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s Pitcher of the Week.
Rhoads tossed a pair of shutouts on the weekend as she helped the Eagles extend their streak to seven-straight games without allowing a run. The sophomore tossed a pair of complete-game shutouts and allowed just four hits over those 14 innings. Sunday’s victory over Gettysburg saw Rhoads nearly make history. The Hiwassee, Va. native entered the top of the fifth with a perfect game intact, before a fielding error broke it up. She regrouped and entered the seventh inning without allowing a hit before a bloop single prevented the no-hitter.
The sophomore has been a key piece of BC’s 48-straight scoreless innings, the longest run in school history. Rhoads has contributed 26 innings to that tally and has not allowed a run herself since March 4 in California off a solo home run.
The Eagles put their 10-game winning streak on the line against Guilford on Saturday in Greensboro. BC returns home on Sunday to take on unanimous No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan.
