GREENSBORO, N.C. (BC Athletics) – Bridgewater College women’s basketball upended Guilford with a score of 65-59 behind a strong 16-point performance by Jay Garcia on the road Saturday.

Records: BCE (15-1 Overall, 8-0 Conf.), GC (11-5 Overall, 5-3 Conf.)

How It Happened
• A shaky start played out for the Eagles to start the game with two early turnovers. Bridgewater kept feeding the paint to find easy looks at the basket, but the Quakers were quick to recover. BCE also jumped out on the fast break off missed shots but couldn’t capitalize on drives to the rim. Under a minute to go, India Dailey found herself open for three that cashed in for the 13th point of the quarter with the Eagles leading by four. The early turnovers cost the Eagles to make any ground and the first quarter ended in a one possession game.
• Although not taking care of the ball again in the second quarter with another turnover, BCE managed to hold off any big scoring runs from GC. The Eagles on the other hand did get onto a sneaky 7-0 scoring run from the help of a shot behind the arc by Asia Williams. BCE got to a seven-point lead with an aggressive and-one make from Garcia to keep the score at 30-23 to wrap up the first half.
• The Eagles extended their lead to nine, giving them their largest lead of the game so far with yet another field goal in the paint. A resounding block by Jaden Alsberry ignited the Bridgewater offense with a quick transition bucket on the other end. Alexis Edmonds grabbed the board, then swiftly darted a pass over to Alsberry for the slick layup inside. Soon after, Jasmine Griffen hit her spot from the three-point mark giving BCE a 10-point lead for the 47-37 third quarter score.
• GC worked to get back into the game early in the final quarter of regulation off a converted turnover. Soon after, Reagan Maynard contributed a three-point score helping the Eagles to their largest lead of the day with a 52-39 margin. From there, BCE kept the Quakers at bay despite the small bursts of a comeback, closing out the matchup with a 65-59 final score.

Game Notes
• Bridgewater found a way to secure the victory while losing possession 30 times to Guilford’s 18.
• The Eagles were locking up on defense successfully holding the Quakers to 33.3% from the floor with 17 attempted threes and only three made.
• Garcia shined in this matchup collecting 16 points, eight boards, three assists, and three denials.
• Jaden Alsberry was a rebound shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds along with three blocks and two steals.
