BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – The Bridgewater College women’s basketball team rolled to a 69-53 victory over Methodist on Tuesday evening

How It Happened
• Bridgewater got on the board first as India Dailey touched nylon off a dish from Jay Garcia. Methodist knocked down a three-pointer to step in front after their first bucket and scored again to go ahead 5-2 before a 7-0 BC run made it 9-5 favor in favor of BC after a Garcia bucket. MU sliced the lead to a point after a Melissa D’Oleo three-pointer, but Autumn Gentry replied with a long-rage make of her own. A pair of free throws by Angelina Yann followed by a buzzer beater from long range by the Monarchs made it 14-11 in favor of BC after a quarter.
• BC opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run with contributions from Rosemary Pierson, Asia Williams, Reagan Maynard and Jaden Alsberry to make it 21-11 with 7:18 to go in the half. Methodist finally got on the board in the quarter to stop the run, but a three-pointer from Williams on the next trip down the floor stretched the lead to 11. MU replied with a run of its own as an 8-0 scoring spirt brought the Monarchs back to within a possession at 24-21 with 3:31 to go in the half. Alsberry got the Eagles on the board to end the run and sparked an 8-0 BC run as her and Jaiden Polston combined to make it 32-21 for BC at the half.
• Methodist opened the third quarter on an 8-2 run to close back to within five, but the Jaden and Jaiden show got to work with big baskets to spark a 9-0 Bridgewater scoring spree capped off by another triple from Gentry made it 43-29 for the Eagles. The teams traded baskets through much of the third quarter including a pair of three-pointers I the final 37 seconds to make it 50-34 for the Eagles heading to the final frame.
• The Eagles started the fourth quarter with a flex of the offense and defense as an 11-2 BC run highlighted by a quick six points from Rosemary Pierson stretched the lead. The BC defense did not allow a Monarch field goal until 5:13 to go in the frame as Kaylen Grullon drilled a three-pointer, but Bridgewater was still in front 61-39. Methodist picked up the pressure and applied full court pressure after the media timeout and closed the gap with a 17-8 run over the game’s final five minutes, but the damage had already been done.

Match Notes
• Alsberry led BC with 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting, while Polston also crossed double digits with 10 to her credit. Garcia grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
• D’Oleo scored a game-best 18 points for the Monarchs including four makes from long range.
• The Eagles shot 48.2% from the floor and 38.5% from long range, compared to 34.6% from the floor for MU and an impressive 55.6% from deep.
