BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – Bridgewater College women’s basketball fell to Shenandoah 53-41 at home Wednesday night.

Records: BCE (17-2 Overall, 10-1 ODAC), SU (12-6 Overall, 8-3 ODAC)

How It Happened
• The Shenandoah defense took away a lot of space and time from the Eagles throughout the game limiting BCE to single digits in two of the four quarters. As soon as the Hornets got going to start the game, the offense clicked. BCE fell into costly turnover mistakes giving the Hornets all of the momentum for the entire first quarter. Three of the 24 turnovers came in the last two minutes of the quarter for the Eagles and that put them behind to grasp the deficit.
• With a buried three-pointer by SU, the momentum stayed on the Hornets’ side again for the second quarter. BCE forced some turnovers on its end, but a cold shooting slump soon trapped any offensive flow. Terese Greene and Maddie Kimble shut down on defense for Shenandoah and quickly moved the ball into transition to find open chances at the rim. The Hornets held the Eagles to 20 points in the second with a first half score, 27-20.
• Again, SU scored first to begin the second half as BCE continued to search for any hold on momentum to cut the deficit. Soon after, SU extended the lead to double digits from another three-pointer by Greene and the Eagles were searching for answers to stop the high turnover rate. Four minutes later uncontrolled possessions ensued from both sides as the Eagles tried to work their way back, driving inside. My’la Green got a layup to go from an aggressive take to the basket using a slick hesitation move. Although making efforts toward fighting back, the Hornets remained diligent defensively, taking a 14-point lead after three.
• With a couple fastbreak points, SU worked its way to its largest lead of the night going up 49-30. Although slowly putting the game out of reach for the Eagles, BCE would not give up without a fight forcing the Hornets into tough offensive situations. BCE got it back down to single digits with less than a minute to go off second-chance opportunities and a cashed bucket from the charity stripe by Jay Garcia. However, more fastbreak points for the Hornets ignited enough stability to hold onto the lead and close out the game with a final score, 53-41.

Game Notes
• SU’s power duo in Green and Kimble gave BCE trouble as the two combined for 43 of the team’s 53 points.
• The Eagles were using the defensive stops to their advantage executing on 17 points on changed possessions.
• Bridgewater tripled SU in the second-chance category with nine points off offensive boards.
• Jaden Alsberry led the way for BCE with a fifth double-double posting 16 points and 11 boards. Alsberry also collected three blocks and two steals.
