BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – The Bridgewater College women’s basketball team knocked off No. 6 Washington and Lee on Wednesday night, 63-49.

Records: Bridgewater 8-0 (2-0 ODAC), Washington and Lee (5-1, 1-1 ODAC)

How It Happened
• Jay Garcia knocked down a three-pointer on BC’s first possession and BC did not look back as it opened the game on a 7-1 run before Mary Schleusner scored her first bucket and the Generals first field goal. BC replied instantly with a floater from India Dailey, but a Generals bucket kept the gap manageable. Riley Corcoran knocked down a jumper and a jumper from Garcia followed to stretch the gap to 13-5. The two sides trade buckets to finish the frame, but BC got the last laugh and took a 19-13 lead after one.
• Three points from Garcia gave BC a nine-point advantage, but a 7-0 WLU run sliced the lead to just a pair at 24-22 with 1:44 to go in a low-scoring second frame. Garcia gave the offense life with an old-school three-point play to spark an 11-3 Bridgewater run over the final 90 seconds of the half. Garcia nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer to end the run and make it 35-25 in favor of the Eagles heading to the break.
• The No. 6 team in the land opened the second half on a 6-0 run, but Garcia answered the call as she knocked down a jumper off a dish from Aylin Humpherys to stop the run. Garcia’s make sparked a 7-0 run for the Eagles as Alexis Edmonds capped it off with a jumper from the mid-range to push the lead to double figures at 42-31. WLU replied with a 10-2 run led by a pair of three-pointers from Elka Prechel to get the Generals to within a score, but an Alsberry jumper and a free throw by Humpherys made it 47-41 heading to the final frame.
• WLU opened with the first bucket of the fourth but was held scoreless for the next five minutes as scores from Edmonds, Garcia, Alsberry and Jaiden Polston put together a 9-0 BC run to make it 56-43 with 3:21 to play. The Generals knocked down a three-pointer to stop the run, but a score from Garcia and a gritty bucket by Dailey made it 60-45 with 1:24 to play. WLU tried to get the offense going after a three-pointer cut the lead to 12 with 1:05 to play, but a costly foul sent Garcia to the line to help close out the victory.
