WINTERHAVEN, Fla. (BC Athletics) – The Bridgewater College softball team erupted for 31 runs in a sweep during day two of its stay in Florida.

Game 1

Score: Bridgewater 10, Elizabethtown 0
Records: Bridgewater 4-1, Elizabethtown 0-1

How It Happened
• Erica Nelson retired the side to open the contest and the Eagles offense went to work. Hannah Mahan and Jordan Wise opened the game with walks and a bunt by McKenna Mueller followed for base hit that allowed Mahan to score and make it 1-0. A walk by Smith loaded the bases and another walk, this time by Kaelyn Ramsey, drove Wise across the plate to make it 2-0. Skyler Buzbee and Abby Byrum followed with sacrifice flyouts to drive in runs as well to make it 4-0 while a double from Aniella Baldwin made it 5-0. Caroline Malandra followed suit with a base knock to drive in Baldwin and round out a massive six-run bottom of the first.
• BC added on in the second frame as Mueller singled and Smith walked to put two on and Buzbee followed with a two-run double to push it to 8-0.
• Elizabethtown had its best chance to strike in the fourth and the fifth, but did not strike. BC pushed two more runs across in the fourth thanks to RBI base knocks from Baldwin and Coffey to make it 10-0 as the run rule intervened.

Match Notes
• Nelson (1-0) earned the win in the circle as she tossed five scoreless and allowed just three hits. BC registered 10 hits as Mueller, Baldwin and Malandra all had multiple base knocks. Buzbee drove in three runs while Smith and Baldwin scored twice.
• Benner (0-1) took the loss for Elizabethtown as she surrendered the first eight earned runs in just over an inning of work.

Game 2

Score: Bridgewater 21, Pitt-Greensburg 3
Records: Bridgewater 5-1, Pitt-Greensburg 1-2

How It Happened
• BC opened the game with the longest inning in sometime with 11 runs on nine hits. Mahan singled to center to open the game and a Wise double drove Mahan across to open the scoring. Mueller reach on an error and Malandra followed with a double to left to drive in a pair of runs. Lexi Schaaf stepped in next and singled to drive in a Malandra and BC loaded the bases after an Andrea Savage knock and a Sarah Kate Tozier walk. Mahan singled to drive in a run and the carousel continued with a walk from Wise and a single from Mueller drove in a run each. Mahan scored on a fielder’s choice and a Malandra triple cleared the base paths to cap off the 11-run opening stanza.
• Pitt-Greensburg went down scoreless in the bottom of the first, but a RBI double by Tozier and a RBI base rip from Jadelyn Ramirez stretched the lead to 13-0 after two. Pitt-Greensburg got on the board in the bottom of the second with a two-run knock to trail 13-2 after two.
• Bridgewater padded on to the lead with a pair of runs in the third inning, and exploded in the top of the fourth for six runs with RBI knocks from Lily Moyers, Katelyn Mininger, and Tozier.
• The visitors had a chance to cut into the deficit in the bottom of the fourth, but a pair of flyouts ended the frame. BC was held off the scoreboard in the fifth and Pitt-Greensburg added a run, but the damage was done.

Match Notes
• Kylie Jones got credited with the victory after tossing the first 3.0 innings of work. All but one Eagles that saw action recorded a hit or drove in a run.
• Powell took the loss for Pitt-Greensburg and only recorded one out.
• BC’s 21 runs is the most by the Eagles in a single game since 2012. The Eagles were a combined 20-for-39 at the plate for a 0.538 average as a team.
