BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – The Bridgewater College men’s lacrosse team dropped their first match of the year to the Catholic Cardinals by a score of 12-4 Wednesday afternoon.

How it Happened
• Catholic won the opening faceoff and scored shortly after on their first offensive possession. CAU’s McMahon connected with Dezelic 40 seconds into the contest to get the Cardinals on the board first. Senior Ian Cook faced a couple more shots before the Eagles managed to get a chance to strike. After holding keeping the Cardinals from scoring for nearly nine minutes, the Eagles defense cracked with 5:49 remaining in the opening stanza. Catholic notched three more goals before the end of the quarter.
• Tristan Lee opened the quarter with a shot attempt but failed to find the back of the net. Catholic scored again with two minutes elapsed in the second quarter, increasing the BC deficit to six. Catholic scored twice more over the duration of the second period. With 31 seconds remaining in the half, Catholic was charged with a penalty for an illegal screen, gifting the Eagles a man-up opportunity to end the half. Jake Wagner connected with Issac Beals with 18 seconds left on the clock to put the Eagles on the board.
• Bridgewater slowed down the Catholic offense to start the third quarter, rendering them scoreless for the first 7:15 of the second half. The Cardinals regained their footing with 7:45 remaining in the third quarter when Dezelic connected with Villa to make it a 9-1 lacrosse game. CAU picked up two more goals over the next minute of playing time. Beals, assisted by Lee, found the back of the net to break the Catholic run. Lee scored unassisted with 1:27 remaining in the period to send the Eagles into the final stanza trailing 11-3.
• Beals scored his third goal of the affair in the first minute of the final quarter on an assist from Wagner. Catholic scored once more as well.
Game Notes
• This is the first loss for the Eagles this season. Their 5-0 start tied the 2018 season with the best start in program history.
• Both of Catholic’s wins this season came on the road.
• Issac Beals lead the Eagles in scoring. Beals recorded three goals for three points. Tristan Lee a goal and an assist for two points. Jake Wagner recorded two assists for two points.
• Killian Krapfl took the bulk of the reps in the faceoff circle for the Eagles. Krapfl went 5-12 on faceoffs.
• Ian Cook recorded 12 saves.
• Catholic played three different keepers during the game. Manorek got the start and the win for the Cards, recording eight saves and only allowing one goal. Manorek was subbed out in the third quarter for Graziano, who made one save and allowed three goals. Mort was subbed in for the final minutes of the contest.
• Catholic outshot Bridgewater 49-33.
