WINCHESTER, Va. (BC Athletics) – Bridgewater College field hockey fell to No. 11 ranked Shenandoah on the road, 3-0 Wednesday night.
Score: Shenandoah (SU) 3, Bridgewater (BCE) 0
Records: SU (15-2 Overall, 7-0 Conf.), BCE (10-5-1 Overall, 4-3 Conf.)
How It Happened
• The Eagles would get the action started early entering the game with a scoring chance off a penalty corner but would get swept away by the defense. The Hornets answered with strong attacking pushes but would not get the job done until the eight minute mark in the first when Shenandoah steadied the course and maintained possession to get the opening point. The score stayed,1-0 at the end of one.
• Aggressive play unraveled in the second quarter for both teams with limited offensive force. BCE would keep SU at 1-0 to wrap up the first half.
• Then, the scoring chances would come in bunches for the Hornets as the Eagles could not keep them out of the attacking circle leading to five penalty corners in the third. Right before the quarter winded down, SU found a way to get one at the back of the board off the fifth penalty corner and third play sequence in a row. The Hornets increased the lead to two managing to carry that over to the fourth quarter.
• In the fourth quarter, SU effectively kept the Eagles from threatening in the attacking circle while SU pushed forward once more to force another penalty corner. The Hornets would convert successfully to give them the final score, 3-0.
