BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – The Bridgewater College field hockey team advanced to the ODAC Semifinals after a 1-0 win over Roanoke on Tuesday night.

How It Happened
• Bridgewater had a pair of chances in the opening quarter of play. Emily Tyler had a breakaway early after a long pass and ripped a shot from in tight, but Madison Wingerter turned it away. Tyler had another opportunity a few minutes later but again Wingerter turned it away. Roanoke had its first offensive chance late in the frame as Maddy Holmes had a shot head towards the crease that was turned away by Ashley Nau.
• BC kept the momentum in its favor as Tyler had another shot saved by Wingerter. Carynn Klinger had a chance off a penalty corner that was blocked, but she made up for it a few minutes later as she made a run past a pair of RC defenders into the offensive zone and found Emily Tyler who flicked a backhand shot into the cage and made it 1-0 for BC 19 minutes in. BC kept pushing including another shot on target from Klingler that was turned away just before the break.
• The Eagles had a chance early in the third off of a penalty corner, but Daphne Daymude had her shot blocked. Roanoke was able to get a penalty corner of its own late in the quarter and fired a shot from a tight angle that hit the side of the goal on its way. Lexi Francis registered a shot on goal as a diving effort by Wingerter kept the gap at just a single goal heading to the fourth.
• The BC offense dominated the pace of the fourth quarter with shots and penalty corners throughout, but no shots on target. Roanoke flipped the field and had a penalty corner with just six seconds on the clock. The Maroons looked to swing the ball around the perimeter and registered a quick shot that was blocked and a foul was called on the rebound to end the game and secure the Eagles’ second-straight ODAC Semifinal appearance.

Match Notes
• Tyler’s tally is her sixth of the season and her third game-winning goal on the campaign. The game-winner is also her second such goal in the last four games.
• Nau made one stop in goal for the Eagles while Madalyn Miller did not see a shot on goal in the second half for BC. Wingerter made six saves for Roanoke.
• BC dominated the pace of play early and often with a 14-3 advantage in the shot count and a 7-1 edge in shots on goal.
• The Eagles registered their 12th win on the season in the victory. That is the highest win total for the program since BC took home the ODAC title and made a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2015.

The Eagles move on to the ODAC Semifinals following a one-goal shutout for the second consecutive season and will face Lynchburg in the second instance as well. The last-four contest is scheduled for Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the hill city.
