DANVILLE, Ky. (BC Athletics) – The Bridgewater College Field Hockey team fended off a late surge from Centre on Sunday on the way to a 1-0 victory in Kentucky.

How It Happened
• Centre had the game’s first chance with a penalty corner early, but the Colonels did not muster a shot on the chance. Maylynn Watson fired a pair of shots on target just over seven minutes in, but Eliza Hensley turned both away. Centre’s loan shot of the frame followed, but missed the cage. BC had a pair of penalty corners within the final minute of the period, but no shots came from the chances.
• The Colonels put their first shot on target ealry in the second quarter, but a save by Ashley Nau, and a miss on the shot off the rebound by the home team, kept the game scoreless. BC had a good look on a penalty corner four minutes into the frame. Carynn Klingler fired a shot on goal that was saved, but Kylie Amberger buried the rebound to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Centre had multiple chances down the stretch including a penalty stroke that was saved by Nau just before the horn to maintain the Bridgewater lead at the half.
• Bridgewater had the first chances of the second half with three penalty corners in the opening five minutes, but BC’s only shot came from Casey Grell and it was off target. BC had another good chance in the closing stages of the third as Amberger had a shot blocked and gathered the rebound that was saved by Centre.
• Centre started the fourth quarter with multiple chances. The Colonels totaled five penalty corners in the final frame including two in the final five minutes. Madalyn Miller made a pair of saves down the stretch to help the Eagles hang on.
Game Notes
• Amberger tallied BC’s lone goal and tied for the team high in shots. Nau and Miller each made three saves for BC.
• Ashley Hamilton led Centre with four shots. Hensley made three stops for Centre in the first half.
• Centre won the shot battle by a 12-10 margin. The Colonels also had more corners at a 9-7 advantage.
