The Bridgewater Reds staved off elimination in the Rockingham County Baseball League Championship Series for the second consecutive game as they earned an 11-7 home win over Clover Hill in game five of the series on Sunday night.
The Reds have won back-to-back games as the Bucks still lead the series 3-2, and game six will take place Monday at Clover Hill.
Bridgewater jumped out to a big lead in game five as they scored one run in the second, four more in the third inning and led 8-2 after three innings.
The Reds built an 11-2 lead before Clover Hill scored one run in the eighth and added four more in the ninth inning.
Bridgewater finished with 20 hits as all nine players had at least one hit, and six Reds had a multi-hit game. Corbin Lucas and Derek Shifflett each had four hits against the Bucks. Lucas drove in two runs and added two RBI, while Shifflett scored three times. Mason Mantz led Bridgewater with three runs batted in as he finished 2-for-4.
Sam Garber improved to 5-0 on the mound this summer as he allowed two runs on six hits in six innings of work.
Drew Easter came off the bench to lead the Bucks as he had two hits and two RBI, Kevin Nevado and Brooks Bowman added two hits each, and Alex Knicely drove in two runs.
