ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — The organizer behind the annual Brent Berry Food Drive is announcing a new summertime push to beat hunger in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.
During an awards ceremony last night, Bucky Berry told Rocktown Now that the food drive and the Rockingham County Fair are teaming up to offer a sweet deal.
“We gotta a big drive coming up in July,” Berry said. “How it’s gonna work, if you purchase a $10 food bag at Bridgewater Foods for the whole month of July, July 1 through July 31, what you’re gonna get in return is two Rockingham County Fair tickets to get into the fair. You spend $10, you get $18 in return.”
Of course, all donated food goes straight to the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Salvation Army – which honored Berry last night with a service award for the ongoing success of the annual food drive.
In 16 years, the initiative has raised more than $2 million dollars to put food on local tables.
