PENN LAIRD, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The business director of a Penn Laird living facility has been arrested following an investigation by multiple agencies.

According to a news release, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on Willow Estates Assisted Living Facility on Tuesday, Sept. 3, as part of an ongoing investigation into multiple criminal allegations.

The Virginia State Police, Virginia Department of Social Services, and Rockingham County Fire and Rescue assisted in the operation. Several items were seized as evidence from the business and two residences owned by individuals connected to it.

New information discovered during the search led to the arrest of the Business Director, Michele Buckner, 64, of Penn Laird. She was charged with one count of felony neglect.

The Virginia Department of Social Services is evaluating the facility’s ability to continue operations.

The investigation is ongoing, and the Sheriff’s Office anticipates additional charges will be filed.
