MAUZY, VA (Rocktown Now) – Rockingham County Department of Fire and Rescue was on the scene of the accident that halted traffic earlier today on I-81.
According to Battalion Chief Doug Gooden, crews were dispatched around 7 o’clock this morning in response to a single vehicle crash that occurred on southbound 81 at mile marker 257 between the Mauzy interchange and Lacey Spring.
“It was just a single box truck overturned in the median,” Gooden said. “They flew one person to UVA (Medical Center) and the other one is at (Sentara) RMH.”
Traffic was reduced to one lane as crews attended the scene, causing congestion and stoppages for approximately two hours.
Gooden reported that the area had been cleared by 9 o’clock.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
