ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) – A New York man is still on the run after leading Virginia State Police and local law enforcement on a chase Sunday on I-81.
Shortly before 3 Sunday afternoon, State Police Spokesperson Robin Lawson reports that the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office asked for assistance pursuing a robbery suspect from New York State.
Harrisonburg Police and Rockingham County deputies joined the pursuit that continued northbound on Interstate 81 until the suspect, Omar Hassan, fled his vehicle around the 249-mile marker after it was disabled by law enforcement.
The immediate search for Hassan was unsuccessful, and a “Be-on-the-Look-Out” notification was then issued by the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Emergency Communications Center describing the suspect as a 5-feet, 11-inches tall “White or Middle-Eastern” man in a black hoodie.
According to the alert, he was last seen on foot in the 3100 block of Layman Trestle Road in Rockingham County.
Authorities warn the community not to approach Hassan as he is possibly armed and dangerous.
If spotted, call 911.
