BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – Bridgewater women’s lacrosse blasted past Hood in the season opener, 12-6, at Jopson Athletic Complex Tuesday night.

Records: BCE (1-0), Hood (0-2)

How It Happened
• Although the scoring eventually came from Bridgewater’s side, the game action didn’t open that way. Hood jumped out of the gate applying immediate pressure to Bridgewater’s back line of defenders. In the first two minutes of play, the Blazers got on the board off a man-up advantage scoring chance. Hood took control on the draws to open the first quarter while staying active defensively forcing early turnovers for the Eagles. The Blazers tacked on another goal to go up by two off a quick transition attack.
• The Eagles soon found their groove, taking command of the draw control and forcing a quick yellow card; resulting in the first free position attempt. Jenna Entsminger converted on the free position to log the first point of the night for BCE. With under two minutes to go in the first quarter, Entsminger got another shot at goal from another penalty in the crease and succeeded, knotting the game up at two apiece.
• From the costly green card, BCE had the one-man advantage and found the open Addison Garrett to take the lead with a delivered pass by Kena Gresham. At the end of one, the Eagles kept the lead at 3-2.
• BCE did not hesitate, quickly getting off to a strong start in the second quarter. Yet another card was dealt for Hood, giving the Eagles the full scoring breakthrough. Grace Pietro rocketed one in from a free position attempt and a minute later Garrett logged her second goal of the night and increased the lead at 5-2 lead with the man-up advantage. Under five minutes left in the first half, both teams traded scoring conversions leaving the two quarters at a 6-3 lead, Eagles.
• The attacks only got more succinct and effective as Bridgewater forced opportunities off penalties. Two more goals came within two minutes of each other, both from Entsminger. Before the end of the third, Hood got one to go, to make it 8-4, Eagles heading into the final quarter.
• The same aggressive play to the crease ensued for the Eagles taking advantage of the man-up. Both Entsminger and Miranda Coleman added two more goals off costly fouls in BCE’s attack. Then, two minutes later two more goals were tallied to make it 12-4 Eagles. Before the game wrapped, Hood managed to cut the deficit with two goals of its own from controlled possessions, but the strong attack held true for Bridgewater leaving it at 12-6, final score.
