WINTERHAVEN, Fla. (BC Athletics) – The Bridgewater College softball team opened its stay in Florida with a pair of shutout victories.

Game 1
Score: Bridgewater 2, Allegheny 0
Records: Bridgewater 2-1, Allegheny 1-1

How It Happened
• BC got the leadoff runner aboard as a passed ball put Mahan on first, but she was left stranded at third after the Eagles moved her around.
• McKenzie Cauthorn continued her hot start to the season as she allowed just a single runner on via a hit by pitch, but recorded four punchouts in the opening two innings. The Gators had a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the third frame, but a Cauthorn strikeout fended off the chance.
• Bridgewater got its first hit in the top of the fourth as Jordan Wise singled to open the inning. SHe then stole second and scored during the next at bat as a McKenna Mueller sacrifice bunt attempt was botched by the Gators allowing Mueller to reach and Wise to cross to make it 1-0.
• Allegheny had a chance to strike back in the bottom of the fourth after an error opened the frame, but again a Cuathorn punchout got BC out of the jam. Bridgewater continued the momentum in the top of the fifth as a Caroline Malandra single following by another Allegheny error on a sacrifice bunt put Mahan aboard. Mahan stole second to put two runners in scoring position and a sacrifice flyout by Wise drove Malandra home to stretch the lead to 2-0.
• The Gators put runners on in the fifth and sixth, but failed to scratch a run across. BC went down in order in the top of the seventh and so did Allegheny highlighted by Cauthorn’s 10th strikeout of the day.
Match Notes
• Cauthorn picked up the win in the circle to move to 2-0 on the year and is yet to surrender an earned run in 2025. The junior recorded 10 strikeouts and allowed just three hits in the gem. Wise, Malandra, Kaelyn Ramsey and Lexi Schaaf accounted for the Eagles’ four hits.
• Belardine got credited with the loss, but did not record an earned run as her defense did her no favors. Genareo led Allegheny in the box as she went 1-for-3 but was left stranded three times.

Game 2
Score: Bridgewater 7, Alvernia 0
Records: Bridgewater 3-1, Alvernia 1-1

How It Happened
• Alvernia opened the game with a a base knock, but ended up stranding a pair of runners in the top of the first after Elena Williams induced a ground out to end the frame. BC had a chance of its own in the bottom of the first as a walk by Wise and a Jazmyne Smith double put two runners in scoring position, but both were left stranded.
• Williams sat the Red Wolves down in order in the second, and BC struck. Ramsey walked to open the inning and swiped second quickly after. Andrea Savage came up later in the inning and capitalized with a single to left field to drive Ramsey in and put BC ahead 1-0 in the second.
• Alvernia stranded a runner in the third, and BC struck again. A Mahan double down the line got the Eagles rolling and a Smith double up the middle drove her in to make it 2-0. Abby Byrum got in on the fun as a single to centerfield by her drove Smith in and made it 3-0 after three innings. BC added to the lead in the fourth by virtue of an error by Alvernia as Aniella Baldwin came around to score as the pinch runner for Skyler Buzbee who opened the inning with a single and put Bridgewater ahead 4-0.
• BC stretched the lead in the fifth as Ramsey walked with the bases loaded to make it 5-0. The Eagles continued to pour it on in the bottom of the sixth as Lily Moyers singled with a pair of runners on in her pinch-hit at bat to make it 7-0 heading to the seventh.
• Alvernia put a pair of runners on in the top of the seventh, but a pair of strikeouts by Evelyn Rhoads sealed the deal.

Match Notes
• Williams took the victory in the circle as she tossed four scoreless. Rhoads tallied five strikeouts on the way to her first save of her young collegiate career. BC tallied nine hits in the game two victory highlighted by a pair from Mahan and Smith.
• Racine took the loss for Alvernia as she surrendered six earned runs. The Red Wolves were limited to just three hits offensively.
