BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men’s soccer team picked up its second win of the season with a 4-1 victory over Marietta on Sunday.
Final Score: Bridgewater 4, Marietta 1
Records: Bridgewater 2-1-2, Marietta 2-2-0
How It Happened
• Bridgewater opened the game with a bang in the third minute. The Pioneers’ goalkeeper came far outside the box and Trey Widrick pounced as a MC turnover in the midfield fell to the sophomore. Widrick fired from the midfield stripe, and it found nylon to make it 1-0 BC early.
• BC kept the foot on the gas with multiple shots including one by Alex Raudales that was saved by Andrew Stein in the 12th minute. Raudales would make up for missing his target a few moments later as he made some moves and fired a shot past Stein and into the back of the net to make it 2-0. BC maintained the momentum and kept the two-goal lead heading to the half.
• The Eagles kept rolling out of the break as Ali Malik made a run down the far side and had help. The sophomore made the pass across the goalmouth to an open Riley Queen who buried his shot to make it 3-0 in the 50th minute. Mareitta had a chance to pounce in the 73rd minute as a shot from Lee Miller found the target, but Charles Schweinefuss scooped it up.
• Marietta kept the pressure up and it paid off as a corner kick from Alec Ellis found the right foot of Ben Beckman who flicked it on goal and past Schweinefuss to get the Pioneers on the board with under 20 minutes to play. BC responded right away as Queen and Malik made another run up field together. Queen had his shot turned away and Malik found the rebound and buried it on the slide to make it 4-1 and ice the game away.
