How It Happened
• Aaron Oates and Jordan Cooper got the Eagles on the board and out to a 4-0 lead. VWU got on the board with a three-pointer, but Maleek Richardson replied with one of his own. BC held the four-point advantage after the squads traded baskets, but that quickly changed as a 10-0 Marlins’ run put the home side in front 15-9. BC replied with buckets from Mason Ramey and Oates to cut the lead to one possession midway through the opening half.
• Virginia Wesleyan wasted no time in response as a Kahi Seargent three-pointer sparked a 16-4 Marlins’ run that turned the tide. Bridgewater got scores on back-to-back trips down the floor and the two sides traded scores as BC tried to keep pace. VWU added to the lead right before the half as the Marlins embarked on a 10-2 run to take a 50-28 lead at the break.
• Oates opened the second half with a make from deep, but VWU responded with an 11-0 run to strengthen their control on the contest. Will Vetter ended the run with a bucket and followed with a three-pointer, but the Marlins had a reply for every BC make including a 14-0 run over the middle of the period to blow the game open.
