FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (BC Athletics) – Aaron Oates tallied his 1,000th career point as Bridgewater fell to Mary Washington 75-66 on the road.

How It Happened
• Mary Washington opened the game with back-to-back makes from deep before a Joseph Crenshaw layup and a RK Law three-pointer got BC to within one. UMW nailed another long ball to stretch the lead, but a Law layup and an Oates jumper tied the game up at 9-9. Mary Washington knocked down another three-pointer, but a Will Dunlap bucket and a make from Kyren Smith put BC in front at 13-12 with 12:50 to go in the half.
• The home side answered, but a layup by Jordan Cooper sparked a 6-0 Bridgewater run by him and Oates to take a 19-14 lead. UMW closed back to within a point before a pair of makes at the line by Smith and a long ball by the rookie pushed the edge out to six points. UMW cut the lead in half before the squads traded long balls and a three-pointer by Oates got his 1,000th point and put Bridgewater in front 33-24 with just north of five minutes to play in the half. A Cooper and-one capped off a 9-0 BC run that put the visitors in front by 12. Mary Washington ended the run, but deep makes by Oates and Dunlap stretched the lead to 42-28 with 2:28 to play in the frame. UMW outscored BC 5-2 over the final two minutes to take it to the half with a 44-33 Bridgewater lead.
• UMW opened the second half on a 6-2 run before another Cooper old-school three-point play put the lead back to double figures momentarily. This is where the game took a turn. Mary Washington got back on the board with a Jay Randall score and wont on a 15-0 run for the next 4:29 to take a 54-49 lead with 12:39 to play.
• Bridgewater did not go down quietly as a Dunlap score ended the run and sparked a 7-0 BC run to take the lead back at 56-54 on a Cooper bucket with 9:34 to play. Five-straight points by UMW had the home side back in front by three with 5:24 to play, but a pair of free throws by Mason Ramey got Bridgewater to within a point. Mary Washington replied with six-straight points to stretch the lead out to seven before an Oates score cut the lead to five with three minutes to go, but UMW was able to outscore BC 10-6 over the final 2:41 to hang on.

Notes
• Oates becomes the 35th 1,000 point scorer in program history behind his 16 points and six rebounds on the night. Cooper tallied 16 points as well for the crimson and gold.
• Randall led all scorers with 20 points for Mary Washington. Jadon Burgess tallied a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards for UMW.
• The big difference on the stat sheet is the 25-9 edge in points off turnovers in favor of Mary Washington. BC shot 60.7% from the field in the opening 20 minutes, but was limited to 33.3% and just 1-of-13 from deep in the second half.
